PLANTING EXTRA TREES WITH ECOLOGI

PLANTING EXTRA TREES WITH ECOLOGI

After a lot of consideration, we’re not doing a big Black Friday discount this year… but here’s what we’re doing instead… And it involves planting trees!

In previous years I have found myself being swept along with the hype and taken part because I wanted to keep up with other brands. But truth is, it never really worked because we aren't built to discount like that.

I don't want you to feel like the only time you can get value for money is by panic buying over one weekend. I know we aren't the cheapest out there, but I hope that when you get our creations in your hands you can see the love, care and quality which goes into everything we do.

Some of the reasons our products are more expensive is because we make them in Britain and in small quantities. This means that our stock doesn't have to travel great distances to get here (so has a much lower carbon footprint) and as we make to order so there isn't any waste.

Our goal for this November is that as a community, we can grow our forest by an additional 100 trees.

We also wanted to do something more positive. And as you might know, we have been supporting Ecologi over the last year to offset our carbon emissions and become a climate positive workforce.

I am so proud that we have planted over 250 trees and offset over 17 tonnes of Co2 so far. 💚

From 26th - 28th November, we'll plant an extra TWO trees for every order we get. 🌳 So that together, as a community, we can do something which will have a positive and lasting impact.

Doesn't matter what you order, we will support Ecologi to plant two additional trees.

Who is Ecologi and how does it work?

Ecologi invest in solutions which reduce carbon emissions either through projects such as reforestation and rewinding, or investing in things like renewable energy.

Projects they invest in are certified to Gold Standard - which ensures that projects meet certain requirements too.

To date, the Ecologi community has planted over 26 million trees and reduced nearly one million tonnes of CO2. This is down to collective action, people like me and you, contributing what they can each month and together having an impact.

The goal is to reduce half the world's emissions by 2040.

You can find out more about the projects Ecologi does here.

Why are we supporting them?

I started my working life in politics and working on energy and sustainability. There are some amazing people out there making amazing things happen everyday, but they need help.

I have seen the power that collective action can have in making real change, and I have also seen the wheels of change turn very slowly when it comes to implementing some of the things we need to do.

I believe that this is about everyone doing what they can, when they can. If we all do a little, take one step in the right direction, then that would mean serious progress.

What else do you do to be sustainable?

As well as supporting Ecologi there are other things we do to lower our carbon footprint. Our goal is to be Climate Positive as a business - which means we remove more CO2 from the atmosphere than we put out each year.

I'm still figuring out exactly what we need to do to get to that point - but here are some of the things we are doing at the moment:

  • Using either FSC certified and sustainably sourced or recycled paper in our paper products.
  • Making sure all our packaging is recyclable or compostable. We also use recycled tissue to pack your orders.
  • Re-using some of the packaging we receive from suppliers in your orders.
  • Using vegetable based inks in our printing and archival inks in our prints so they will last a lifetime without fading.
  • Use vegan glue in all our products.
  • Both our London office and Northern Studio are supplied by 100% renewable electricity.
  • Using local printers in Britain to produce our stationery, meaning it doesn't have to travel a long way to get to us from overseas.
  • We keep any misprints, or seconds and are planning to do a sample sale next year so nothing goes to waste.
  • Supporting Ecologi each month to be a climate positive workforce - both mine and Lynn's carbon emissions are offset each month.

I know there is more we can do (we aren't perfect!) and it's something we are constantly thinking about improving,

Our goal for this November is that as a community, we can grow our forest by an additional 100 trees.

I hope you are as excited about this goal as we are!
